Forget Me Not

Weekenders Romance Watch

Forget Me Not
Author: Karen Cogan
Genre: Mainstream Romance
Buy: Amazon

Blurb:
School secretary, Miranda Wilkins is thrilled when Paul Green walks into her life. The handsome gym coach is everything she wants in a man--except for one problem. He's stopped trusting in a loving God.

As she attempts to persuade Paul to trust, her own faith is tested. Her mother is gradually becoming mentally and physically incapacitated by a mysterious illness, and her father and sister are suffering from a strain that threatens to tear the family apart.

Will Miranda have the strength to be a witness to Paul, or will her tribulations and his anger at God cause him to drift from her?

Enchanting Excerpt:
At three o'clock, she walked the children outside. Just as she rounded the corner of the building, she walked headlong into a broad chest. She drew back quickly and looked up into the deep blue eyes of Paul Green.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I should have watched where I was going," she gasped.

He steadied her briefly and then let go. "Miranda, right?" He smiled down.

     "Right."

His smile penetrated her heart, making her feel warm.

"You must be a woman of many talents. I thought you were the school secretary. Now it seems you're a teacher, too." He nodded at the children scattering toward the sidewalk.

"I'm filling in for the afternoon. Everybody has the flu and we can't get enough subs."

"I know. It's taking a toll at the high school, too."

"Hopefully, the worst will be over soon. The attendance clerk was out today, and when I left to sub, Mrs. Walters was alone in the office."

Paul grinned." When I signed in, she was holding the phone with one hand and signing a note with the other."

"I guess I better get back and give her some relief."

"Take care of yourself. Anyone who does the job of two people is too important to get sick."

"I'll tell that to Mrs. Walters."

     "Tell her I said so."

She flashed a parting smile and headed to the office.  Her shoulders tingled where he had steadied her with his firm grip and she felt a shiver begin up her spine at the memory of his touch. His hands were warm and gentle, strong and masculine.

Author: Mickie Sherwood

Genre: Inspirational Romance

Buy: Amazon

Blurb:
Although Ashley Wagner feels more like Scrooge than Santa, she keeps her promise and accompanies her sister back home for a Christmas wedding. Her three-day weekend is off to a rocky start, thanks to the unexpected run-in with her womanizing ex-husband, and his very pregnant new wife. She manages to get away with her dignity intact, but later, with old wounds ripped open, the professional crisis manager ends up in the middle of her own life-altering predicament.

Then, sports journalist Craig Johnston, wheels to her rescue.

Will Ashley spend Christmas brooding over bitter memories? Or will Craig, a dynamic paraplegic, present the deserving divorcée with a gift she can't resist?

Enchanting Excerpt:
Driven to perfect his sports news piece, Craig glanced from his laptop to the telephone when it rang. In a way, he was glad for the interruption. The knot in his neck said he’d been hard at work for hours. “Yeah?”

“There are two ladies here to see you.” The female voice on the phone advised.

Since the station operated on a skeleton crew because of the holiday, the call was from the security officer in the building’s lobby. Adjusting the rolled up sleeve of his white shirt, he asked, surprised, “Visitors to the station on Christmas Eve, Donna?”

“They say it’s about this morning.”

Those words commandeered his attention. “This morning?” He slapped down the cuff of both sleeves. “I’m on my way.” Quickly, he buttoned them, pushed back from the desk, then rushed from the office. His door shut with a bang. Craig took the hallway to the elevators, almost running down a co-worker when he turned the corner.

“Hey! Where’s the fire, Craig?”

“Sorry,” was all he had time to say as he continued on his way.
The elevator seemed to take a long time to arrive. Finally, the doors opened, and he dashed to board.

Memories flooded back to him on the ride down. Craig remembered how he recognized the woman was in trouble. Her luminous eyes held a faraway look. Nevertheless, in no way did that obscure their charismatic beauty. He reminisced about the cottony soft skin of the hand he held.

The elevator bell dinged.

Abruptly, he was a bundle of nerves. Big, strong, athletic sportsman, Craig Johnston experienced something he hadn’t in years—immediate infatuation—for a stranger, no less.

Chances of a slow reveal past as the security officer beckoned in his direction. The two pivoted together. Their resemblance was so remarkable. Although one appeared slightly older, he surmised a familial relationship. The younger one failed in her attempt to hide what he assumed was pity and alarm. His wheelchair probably caused her reaction. The woman he rescued never batted an eye of surprise. To his amazement, he watched her stroll over. A majestic smile curved her luscious-looking lips.

“I’m Ashley Wagner.” She extended her hands to him. “I believe you’re the one I should thank for being so kind to me this morning.”

Taking her outstretched hands, Craig looked at her. No longer in a rush, he took time to analyze Ashley. A feeling, akin to this morning’s enchantment, zapped him. “Are you all right?”

At that point, Ashley’s action mystified him. Craig watched her close her eyes. But, she never removed her hands from his fingers.

“Ask me that question again,” she urged.

Baffled, he obliged. “Are you all right?”

“That voice.” Her eyes reopened. They seemed to shower him with a joyful gaze. “I would recognize that chivalrous rumble anywhere.” Ashley squeezed his hands as if to impart power to her gratitude. “It is you.”

God Whisperer

Weekenders Romance Watch

God Whisperer
Author: Kimberly Troutte
Genre: Mainstream Romance
Buy: Amazon

 Blurb:
A frightened mother on the run…

LONNIE HOGAN has lived and breathed fear for the past eight years. Will the killers find them? She’s ready to run again, or fight for her son’s precious life, but she won’t let anyone take David.

A desperate man searching for his family…

Few people on St. John, Virgin Islands, know their favorite doctor, MARK NORTON, is a desperate man searching for the life stolen from him. After hours, he surfs the internet for leads gone stone-cold to find his missing family.

Will sacrifice everything to protect the boy who hears God…

Enchanting Excerpt:
Had they been found?
Holding her breath, she listened. She waited for the bedroom door to scrape open and a dark figure to burst into her room. Her muscle fibers and nerves were ready to propel her body out of bed. She was a live wire. Her senses were on overdrive, ready to yell for help, ready to flee.
Several minutes later she exhaled her relief. No one had gotten in. No one was going to kill them. Tiptoeing down the hall, she went to David's room and gently put her hand on his chest. Her innocent child was fast asleep.
She crawled back into bed. Focusing on the hairline crack in her ceiling, she rehearsed what she'd do if they were caught. Lonnie hated thinking about the scary past showing up on her front porch, but had to prepare. She'd protect David at all costs.
Mentally, she recited the escape plan she had nicknamed The List:
One: Grab the box hidden under the bed.
Two: Snag the falsified IDs and birth certificate from the sock drawer.
Three: Tuck everything under David's arms and tell him to, "Run to Carrie Beth's!" He'd be confused, but she'd make him understand. She had to.
Four: Run as fast as her legs could carry her unless…she couldn't. If she couldn't get away, she'd stand and fight to save her son. David was the only person who mattered. Only David.
By the time she finished running through her plan she was sobbing into her pillow. The List always made her cry. But not being prepared for the worst was like signing their death warrants.
The worst could be just around the corner. She had to be ready.

Imagine That

Weekenders Romance Watch

Covington Falls Chronicles (Book 3)

Imagine That
Author: Kristin Wallace
Genre: Mainstream Romance
Buy: Amazon

Blurb:
Children’s author Emily Sinclair was supposed to be the next J.K. Rowling… Until her second book flopped and her imagination went on the fritz. So she sets out on an epic adventure to find inspiration again. A journey that leads her to Covington Falls. Rugged, blue-collar Nate Cooper is dealing with his sick mother and troublesome teenage brother. He doesn’t have much use for fancy words and certainly not for a slightly off-center writer on the lam. On paper, these two would seem the least likely pairing, but they’re about to write their own happily ever after.

Enchanting Excerpt:

(Emily’s car has broken down outside Covington Falls…)

The truck slowed and Emily tensed, torn between elation at being found and wariness regarding exactly who might be behind the wheel of the ancient rattletrap. The glare off the windshield made it impossible to see inside the cab, however.

The tires veered off to the side of the road and stopped, sending up a cloud of dust. Emily waved her hand, choking on the airborne dirt. Her mouth felt dry as if she had licked the ground. The door opened. Work boots emerged. Brown and roughed-up and covered in… paint. A man stepped out, and Emily steadied her hands against the car to keep from falling over.

Mr. Darcy. No, Heathcliff. Only instead of a cravat and breeches, he was dressed in faded jeans and a black T-shirt, which seemed molded to an impressive chest. Heath stretched up a good six-plus feet, towering over her puny five-foot-two frame. A lock of dark chocolate-brown hair brushed over his forehead. Their eyes met. Since she was already thinking in clichés, Emily’s mind offered up a million of them to describe his eyes. She could start with gray, but no way did such a mundane word do them justice. Slate, storm clouds, a roiling sea, glazed pewter. Devastating, and framed by thick sooty lashes no man had a right to possess.

He stopped a few feet away, and Emily had the fanciful notion he was trying not to frighten her. Like she was a skittish filly about to bolt.

“Hi,” he said. “Car trouble?”

His voice was like his eyes. Smooth and deep, like honey in a cup of hot tea.
Emily nodded. How could she speak when every male literary fantasy she’d ever dreamed about had unfolded from a rusted-out pickup?
